Promoting Inclusive Education For Every Last Child In Mongolia-2

In 2021, Save the Children in Mongolia started implementing a three-year project “Promoting Inclusive Education throughout primary and lower-secondary education in Mongolia” funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

Project goal

Promoting Inclusive Education throughout Primary and LowerSecondary Education in three districts of Ulaanbaatar city, Khovd and Uvurkhangai aimags.

Target areas and groups

Children with special needs between 6th and 9th grade, teachers and staff of selected public schools, parents and caretakers in Uvurkhangai and Khovd provinces, and in Bayanzurkh, Chingeltei, Songinokhairkhan districts of Ulaanbaatar.

Project objectives

  1. To improve readiness for 5th grade students to ensure smooth transfer from primary to lower-secondary school
  2. To establish Inclusive Education model in public lower-secondary schools
  3. To support parents to help their children in their transition and further learning
  4. To advocate for improvement of related policies and regulations at the national level and promote inclusive education nationwide

Expected outcomes

Outcome-1. 5th grade students of target public schools increase their readiness to enter lower-secondary schools

Outcome-2. Target public lower-secondary schools have a physical and psychological environment to accept and support children with special needs learning and school life.

Outcome-3.  Parents of children enrolled in target public schools and out-of-school children gain understanding of supporting their children’s education and physical and mental health at home.

Outcomes-4. A comprehensive inclusive education system is in place to support children with special needs from primary to lower-secondary schools to be independent and to be able to participate actively in school activities
