The Enhancing Youth-led Engagement for Creating an Inclusive and Livable City in Ulaanbaatar’s Ger Areas project

The ADB-funded project "TA-6895: Enhancing Youth-led Engagement for Creating an Inclusive and Livable City in Ulaanbaatar’s Ger Areas" started its operations with Save the Children Japan Mongolia in close coordination with the "Ger Area Development Investment Program" and the "Affordable Housing Urban Redevelopment Program".

Project objectives:

  • To gain a better understanding of the situation of youth living in ger areas.
  • Improving the environment for meaningful youth engagement
  • Testing methods to improve meaningful youth participation of youth living in the Ger District in urban planning and design, development, and governance.

The target audience for the project:

  • Youth aged between 18-30 living in the "Bayankhoshuu" business incubator area (this includes 7-11, 28, and 40th khoroo of Songinokhairkhan district)
  • Youth aged between 18-30 living in the "Selbe" business incubator area (this includes 13, 14th khoroo of Sukhbaatar district, 14, 18th khoroo of Chingeltei district)

Project activities: 

  • Analyzing youth-oriented programs, relevant laws, and policies of Mongolia
  • An overview of research on Mongolia's current poverty, labor market, and gender situation.
  • To improve the technical and soft skills of the youth of the Bayanakhoshuu and Selbe areas through the "Youth Urban Ambassador" program, and to identify the problems faced by youth, their needs, and the socio-economic conditions of the area through the active participation of youth.
  • Implementing micro-grant competition through the "Youth Ambassador Program" involving youth in urban planning and accessibility.
