Our Leadership Team

The leadership team of Save the Children Mongolia consists of a Representative of Save the Children Japan, Mongolia Office and managers that oversee the administration of our projects, human resources, advocacy and communication. The members of our leadership team are highly educated professionals in a wide range of relevant fields which include: humanitarian affairs, child protection, education, child rights governance, business development, and project management. They lead the direction of Save the Children Mongolia work and nurture the daily commitment of our employees and volunteers to improve outcomes for children and youth across Mongolia.

Bayan-Altai Luvsandorj

Country Manager and Representative of Save the Children Japan

Bayan-Altai Luvsandorj has been working as the Country Manager and Representative of Save the Children Japan in Mongolia since 2019. He is responsible for planning, implementing and managing the organization's activities in Mongolia, and managing and leading the local team. Other key areas of his responsibilities include development and implementation of projects in the areas of child protection, education, poverty, business development, and child rights governance. An important part of his work is to build and strengthen partnerships with government agencies, international organizations, NGOs and the private sector.

Bayan-Altai started his career working as a Program Officer at Mercy Corps, and later he served there as the Director of Gobi Initiative, a large economic development program funded by the USAID.  Later, he run the Business Advisory Services Program at European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, targeting SMEs in Mongolia. In addition, he has held senior management positions in private companies such as Oyu Tolgoi and Max Group, where he led and implemented many successful business projects. He provided advisory services and organized training for leading national and international companies on organizational strategy, human resource management and leadership development.

Bayan-Altai graduated from the Mongolian University of Science and Technology with a degree in information technology and management and holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Leeds, UK. He also studied economic development at Michigan State University in the United States.

He enjoys playing basketball and running. Also, he likes to do translation in his free time. He translated Bottom Billion, an economic development book, from English to Mongolian. Written by Paul Collier, an Oxford University Professor, the book explains the reasons why impoverished countries fail to progress despite international aid and support.

Delgerzaya Khunbish

Manager of Human Resources and Administration

Delgerzaya manages Save the Children Mongolia’s human resources and administration, as well as the coordination of safety across all aspects of operation.

She has experience working as an Education Manager at the International School of Mongolian Studies for Foreigners, and as Logistics Manager at the American travel company Boojum expedition. Delgerzaya has worked for Save the Children since 2008. Initially as  an Administration & Human Resource Officer, then as an Administration, Logistics & Procurement Officer for Save the Children UK. In 2013 she assumed her current role as Manager of Administration and Human Resources at Save the Children Japan Mongolia office.

In addition to her 19 years of work experience in procurement, logistics, human resources, safety and security, she has worked  on humanitarian projects: helping herders who were affected in the zud disaster and supporting the operation of an inter-soum (rural) hospital.

Delgerzaya holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Journalism from the National University of Mongolia and a Master of Social Administration from the State Agency Academy of Management in Mongolia. She has acquired knowledge and experience in emergency preparedness and response covering all aspects of planning, preparation, safety, security, and emergency leadership in different scenarios including in earthquakes and other disasters, via participation in international and regional simulation trainings.

Her areas of interest are emergency preparedness, humanitarian response, human resources, self-development, public health and tourism. She enjoys hiking, horse riding and travelling.

Bulgan Baatarsuren

Finance Manager

Bulgan Baatarsuren joined Save the Children UK in February 2008, initially as an Accountant, and then in October 2008 she took a role of a Finance and Grants Officer. In 2012 she was promoted to her current role as the Finance Manager at Save the Children Japan Mongolia office.

She is responsible for ensuring that the organization has efficient and effective financial policies, practices and control mechanisms, and fulfills national legislative requirements. Her main roles include providing quality financial and risk information, advising the organization and our partners, budget development, forecasting future financial plans, financial monitoring and reporting.

Before joining Save the Children, Ms.Bulgan was a freelance translator and previously worked as a Coordinator for a National Volunteering project jointly implemented by UN Volunteers and VSO.

She has a BA in International Relations from the National University of Mongolia (NUM), and a BBA in Accounting from the Institute of Finance and Economics, and has a MBA in Management from the NUM.

She enjoys cooking, reading and travelling.

Tsolmon Enkhbat

Child Protection and Child Rights Governance Programs Manager

Tsolmon has dual responsibility for delivering our Child Protection Program and ensuring Save the Children effectively advocates for children’s rights within Mongolian society, in the media and in the processes of governmental policy development.

Tsolmon joined Save the Children in 2013, and has since directed two Young Voices projects, engaging 3,427 young Mongolians in advocacy against violence, neglect, discrimination, corruption and poverty. She led the implementation of the  Budget Analysis for Children Project and administered the implementation of WB-funded social accountability projects in ten provinces as well as in Ulaanbaatar. She coordinates the collaboration with  The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, including the supplementary report. She led the research of the Child Rights Situation Analysis, both in 2018 and in 2020. In addition, she worked as one of the key contributors to Child Rights and Child Protection Laws of Mongolia, and actively led the CSOs in combatting violations of children’s rights.

Previously, Tsolmon worked at UNICEF Mongolia as its Program Associate on policy analysis and participation, communication, water and sanitation from 2005 to 2011. She also served as the Editor-in-chief of the National Geographic Kids Mongolia magazine from 2011 to 2013.

Tsolmon holds a M.A. in International Law. She is currently  pursuing her Ph.D. from the National University of Mongolia. At the same time, she is associating as a human rights researcher.

Tsolmon is passionate about equity, social justice and advocating for systemic changes.

Khulan Munkh-Erdene

Advocacy and Communications Manager

Khulan Munkh-Erdene has been working as an Advocacy and Communications Manager at Save the Children Mongolia since 2016. As a mother of three, Khulan is passionate about protecting children and helping them to fulfill their potential in everyday life. Since public relations is basically an art of building relationships, she deals with a wide array of partners, collaborators and stakeholders. Research and analysis of social protection issues, very often linked with economic and social aspects, are an important part of her job and how she designs sustainable solutions to actual problems. Khulan assists parents to achieve positive discipline approaches in everyday parenting. Amongst many other qualifications, she holds bronze and silver course certificates in “Steps to Protect,” a common approach of Save the Children.

Khulan is a communications and advocacy professional with 12 years of experience in the non-profit world. In her Bachelor’s degree she majored in French and Russian. Additionally, she holds a Master’s degree in Strategic Public Relations from the University of Sydney, which enabled Khulan to work in the international arena and gain intercultural-communication and team building skills. Before joining Save the Children Mongolia, Khulan worked at the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) for eight years as a Communications Manager, leading the organization’s communications, marketing, education and public awareness efforts.

Khulan proudly volunteers for good causes. The latest project in which she was engaged helped to protect young children from hazardous air pollution in the most polluted area of Ulaanbaatar city. Khulan enjoys traveling and experience great pride from Mongolia’s pristine landscapes, untouched nature and charismatic animals.

Fumi Matsumoto

Education Grant Project Manager

Fumi Matsumoto joined Save the Children Japan in 2018 and is currently managing “Promoting Inclusive Education for Every Last Child In Mongolia – 2” funded by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Before moving to the Mongolia office, she worked as a program coordinator in the Tokyo office of Save the Children Japan, coordinating projects in Mongolia and managing the Child Protection in Emergencies Professional Development Program for the Asia region.

Fumi received her bachelor's in social sciences from Hitotsubashi University in Japan. She traveled to the UK and earned a master’s degree with distinction in International Education and Development at the University of Sussex after spending four years working as a presales product engineer at IT companies in Japan. She is a mother of a small daughter who resides in Mongolia with her.

Her interests include Inclusive Education, EdTech, and Early Childhood Education.

Nyamdavaa Yondonjamts

Project Manager

Nyamdavaa Yondonjamts is currently the manager of the “Entrepreneurship-Focused Socioemotional Skills for the Most Vulnerable Youth in Rural Mongolia Project”, financed by the Japan Social Development Fund and managed by the World Bank.

Prior to joining Save the Children, he worked as Director of the National Non-Formal Education Center and Deputy Director of the National Institute of Education, and contributed to the development of the Non-Formal Education System in Mongolia. He also worked at UN agencies, the International Labor Organization and the International Organization for Migration, where he implemented a number of projects to improve the issues of child labor, youth employment, employment of people with disabilities and internal migration.

Mr. Nyamdavaa graduated as a history and social sciences teacher, and obtained his Master’s degree in Non-Formal Education from the Mongolian State University of Education. Additionally, he obtained a diploma of International Education Management and Planning from the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning in Paris, France. His hobby is nature photography. He loves to study international educational management, adult education and literacy education.
