VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Save the Children Japan, Mongolia Office is implementing the “Preparing Youth for Democracy in Mongolia” project for two years (01 March 2020 – 28 February 2022) funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund. The project is designed to promote democratic values, teach electoral processes among young voters, and strengthen their civic engagement and their ability to make informed electoral choices, ultimately contributing to stronger democratization. Save the Children Japan, Mongolia Office is currently looking for a Short-term Consultant for Project Management and Advocacy with extensive applied experience and expertise in working with youth (15-19 years old) on democratic values and processes, citizen participation, and strategies for youth engagement.
KEY ASSIGNMENTS:
The purpose of the assignment is to provide strategic direction and leadership to 10 Young Voices Clubs (YVC) with 250 members in target areas - 7 in Ulaanbaatar and 3 in Khovd with assistance of university associations and school children's councils. The Consultant will (a) support youth clubs to formulate and implement two small grant initiatives; (b) collect all results of the small-scale funding projects initiated and implemented by the YVCs and formulate a report; (c) prepare and organize Young Voters Forum; (d) organize awareness-raising discussions, guest speakers and workshops; (e) support YVCs to share and review their small-scale funding projects and collaborate on a communique reflecting their findings; (f) help build a sustainable network of concerned young voters; (g) assist YVCs to launch the report and obtain feedback to gain practical experience of putting the issue of democratization on the political agenda as human rights defenders; (h) coordinate workshops for forward planning for activities, advocacy, and communications and fundraising. The consultant will also plan and carry out the assigned tasks adapting to possible COVID-19 restrictions and lockdown situations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SELECTION CRITERIA
- University Degree preferably in political/social science, education, law, journalism, the management, or a related field
- 5 years of applied project management and evaluations experience
- Extensive experience in advocacy, communications, knowledge management in the international development domain
- Working experience and knowledge with youth development programs
- Proven experience in one or more of the following areas: communication; visibility; journalism; editorial work; media relations; event organization and coordination; external relations; community outreach; advocacy, or an associated field;
- Strong IT skills and excellent knowledge of office software packages required;
- Excellent knowledge in using online platforms (MS Teams, Zoom, etc.) required;
- Excellent English and Mongolian writing and communication skills;
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills; and
- Strong ability to meet deadlines.
